Cognac Seguinot
The manufacture of Cognac
An art at the heart of the Maison Seguinot
Since 1890, the House of Seguinot has preserved and perfected the ancestral art of cognac making. Each step, from the vine to the final blending, is carried out with meticulous attention to ensure impeccable quality.
Discover how Seguinot’s know-how transforms the fruits of the vine into exceptional cognac alcohol.
A tradition of excellence
The production of Seguinot cognac is a reflection of more than 120 years of expertise and passion. Each step, from the vine to the glass, demonstrates our commitment to the terroir and our requirement to produce exceptional alcohol cognacs.
Vine and grape harvest
The origin of Cognac
It all starts with Ugni-Blanc, the emblematic and main grape variety used to produce brandy. Cultivated in the prestigious 1er cru of Grande Champagne, this grape is harvested as soon as it reaches its optimal maturity, generally at the beginning of October.
At the Maison Seguinot, each harvest is a crucial moment because it determines the quality of future eaux-de-vie
Distillation
A know-how unchanged since 1890
Immediately after harvesting, the grapes are pressed to extract the juice, which is then fermented.
This fermentation, carefully monitored, prepares the distillation, a central process in the production of cognac.
At Seguinot, we use the Charentais still, faithful to the tradition since the founding of our house.
The double distillation, carried out between November and March, concentrates the aromas and gives our eaux-de-vie their purity and richness.
It is a work of precision where every detail counts to reveal the best of the terroir.
Aging
The sublimated patience
The cognac ages slowly in our cellars, in direct contact with the air and the carefully selected Limousin oak barrels. This process, which takes several years, is at the heart of the cognac processing.
The wood of the barrels transmits its complex aromas and golden color to cognac. This unique phenomenon is also marked by “the angels’ share”, an annual evaporation of part of the alcohol, which leaves on the walls of our cellars a characteristic black signature.
At Seguinot, this alchemy between air, wood and time gives rise to cognacs with an exceptional bouquet.
Assembling
The art of balance
The cellar master is the guardian of the quality and harmony of our cognacs. Thanks to his expertise, he assembles eaux-de-vie of different ages and crus to create unique cognacs.
Each blend is a work of art, the result of an unfailing intuition and rigor. This delicate work allows to compose rich and balanced aromatic palettes, capable of seducing the most demanding cognac lovers.
Age accounts
Outdated standards
The cognacs are classified according to their aging duration in barrels:
VS: Aged at least 2 years.
VSOP and Reserve: Aged at least 4 years.
Napoleon, XO and Hors d’âge: Aged at least 6 years.
At Maison Seguinot, we go well beyond these requirements. Our cognacs are made with spirits much older than the legal standards. Some of our blends even incorporate eaux-de-vie that are several decades old. This concern for excellence allows us to create cognacs with rich, complex aromas and exceptional depth.
